LINCOLN CITY BEGINS BROADCASTING CITY MEETINGS ON YOUTUBE
Channel 4 Broadcasting Ends September 14, 2026
The City of Lincoln City will transition from Channel 4 to YouTube for City meeting broadcasts beginning September 14. Meetings will be streamed on the City’s YouTube channel at: www.youtube.com/@CityOfLincolnCityOregon
Meetings will also be broadcast live and made available post-broadcast at the City website. www.lincolncityor.gov/government/public-meetings
Transition from Cable Channel 4 to YouTube
The City is transiting away from its traditional Cable Chable 4 broadcast and use YouTube as the primary platform for distributing City video programming. Channel 4, the public access channel through Spectrum’s cable service, was established at a time when cable television was one of the primary ways residents received local information. As viewing habits and technology have changed, maintaining a dedicated cable channel provides increasingly limited value compared with modern online video platforms.
Moving to YouTube provides several advantages:
- Greater public accessibility
- On-demand access
- Live streaming
- Broader reach
- Improve usability
- Reduced dependence on aging, specialized cable-broadcast equipment
This change does not reduce public access to City information. Instead, it modernizes the method used to provide the access. The goal is to make City video programming available to more people, on more devices, and at the time they choose to view it.
The transition reflects the broader shift from scheduled cable television programming toward internet-based and on-demand video while continuing the City’s commitment to transparency and public access.
